Benchmark methodology and limits

How Change Order Check maps ZIP codes to local benchmark data, computes confidence, labels insufficient data, and reports data vintage.

Change Order Check compares extracted line items against public and maintained reference data where enough detail exists. ZIP code is used to resolve the local market area for labor and regional benchmark context.

Labor benchmarks use BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics percentiles. Material and equipment checks use maintained catalogs, public cost references, supplier-style ranges, PPI updates, and public change-order comparables where available.

Confidence reflects parse quality, line-item structure, benchmark source quality, and whether quantity, unit, hours, trade, material category, and supporting references are present. Lines below the confidence threshold are labeled as insufficient data rather than given a false range.

  • Benchmark data vintage is included in generated reports when data freshness is available
  • Ranges are informational; site conditions, contract terms, schedule pressure, and local availability vary
  • Reports do not replace a licensed estimator, attorney, appraiser, or project professional
